Connection: Life Function Areas

It's important to keep in mind all areas of your life as you pursue your Domino Goal™. Explore each of the 8 areas of your life and assess what is working, what could be better, and give it a score between 1 - 10. The purpose of this is to set a baseline to have a clear understanding of your start point from which to build your action plan.

  • Okay. Now that you've done the sort of the connection work, you've really connect it to your core motivation and you've seen how your values can be lived or expressed as you work towards this goal in the next 12 months. That's so important. Remember, your core motivation is what's going to keep you to it when times get tough.
  • And your values are going to serve as, um, helpers as we make decisions to go forward. But we have this big life, right? We have these eight areas of our life that are going to be impacted. Some are going to be, um, some are going to be focused on and others are going to be put a little bit to the side from time to time.
  • Now, this next step is I want you to look at those eight areas, those eight functional areas of your life, and kind of give it a baseline assessment. Where are you now in each of these areas? And I'd like you to identify what's working. What are the things that are working well in this area and the things that could be better, identifying sort of gaps in that area of your life.
  • And then, uh, I want you to give it a score, a score from zero to 10 and zero being it's not at all present in your life. And a 10 being you couldn't have it more present, you're fully living it, so you're just going to intuitively give it a score. So before we do that, I'm just gonna read for you the, uh, eight areas that I've identified, and then just take your time.
  • Uh, again, everything that you do, we're creating that beautiful domino pattern in this domino effect life framework. So the more time you take at the front end to plan and to be mindful, to set a real true baseline, the more you're going to be able to develop a plan that you can act on and it'll feel true for you.
  • Okay, so these eight life areas, the first one is spiritual and mindfulness practice. We all need to have a sense of connection. To something bigger than ourselves and the practice of really paying attention to the present moment. The second one is legacy and contribution, and you've heard me talk, this is really up for me right now, but legacy and contribution is really a creation of something that lasts beyond oneself.
  • And personal development is another life functional area. It's the practice of personal reflection in order to identify and explore areas of growth and improvement, like that sort of just, you know, existential questioning and answering, you know, what is the meaning of this? I want to know more about myself.
  • A lot of the personal development piece was tapped into in the Explorer section of this three step process. Another one is career, uh, career development or business. And I put those together cause they're, you know, either you're working for someone else or for yourself. Your goal may or may not have something connected to that, but it's a professional area of your life that includes traditional employment or entrepreneurship.
  • And then we have this thing called fun recreation and hobbies, which we can often, it often gets left behind if we're really focused on something. And it's so important to have fun to, um, uh, you know, give our brain a rest by playing with a hobby or doing something fun. And it's really the time and activities use to elude your daily life, kind of an escape where you forget your responsibilities and lose track of time.
  • The next one is relationships. It's the connection to people around you. It might be your friends, your family, um, just your loved ones that, that close circle of people that you rely on and who relies on you as well as your health, the condition of your physical body. Uh, whatever you're experiencing right now.
  • And your financial, the status of your monetary assets and your debts. So there's those eight functional areas of your life. And I'd like you to take whatever time you need for each area to identify, you know, what's working well. And I want you to find some juice in each one, something that's really good in each one, and what's working as well.
  • Identify what could be better, any gaps. And then again, give it a score from zero to 10 that a zero means it's not present at all. And a 10 means that you couldn't be living it more fully. And then we're going to, this really essentially is giving us a baseline for where we are starting from in our life to make sure that we know, um.
  • We can track back to it to say, are we making progress? Are we stepping back or are we moving forward? Okay, so take whatever time you need and look at those eight areas of your life. And again, don't forget to give it a score between zero and 10.
