Category Bubbles | Workbook Page 60

  • Alright, now that you've got your mind map started, now I say started on purpose cause I'm going to remind you it's going to change again. You don't know what you don't know. The next step is to take each of those categories and I call them bubbles. Each of those bubbles and identify the tasks or the resources required.
  • The things you need to think of. In order to make sure that that is accomplished. And this is where I said, make sure you have your PostIt notes, cause I'm going to talk about how I use posted notes. And, um, so again, I'll demonstrate how I broke down my bubble called production. But I encourage you, if you want to use the big pole, the big wall, flip chart paper on the wall, that's a great way to do your category bubbles.
  • I often start, like you'll see here, I start with this on a piece of paper and then I expand it and, um, have it in front of me at all times. So. I'll show you how I broke down the production bubble. And as I do that, I am going to talk about how I, um, how I use the PostIt notes. So you see, I've production on the top of the page, and if I was working on this, um.
  • In my office, I would put every task or every resource or everything I need to think of on a separate, post it note, and then just plop the PostIt notes underneath. So imagine that I'm writing this on post it notes and you'll see how eventually you're going to be able to maneuver, uh, your strategy with the notes.
  • So the first thing. With production. I had to think of what platform we were going to use. I act like I know how to talk about platforms. We as a team had to decide where are we going to buy one. Or where are we going to create or build our own? At one point we decided to build our own, so then we had to say who manages it?
  • We do assign who's in charge of it, how to train to do it, and then we had to backfill for that position. So you see. There's, um, uh, steps involved, and then of course we had to take action and get that done. Then with production, I had to think about, well, I need a set. We had to design the set, then we needed to get a camera.
  • And, um, as time went on, we bought a camera that was too powerful for our technology. So we had to get new technology. Um, we had to get lights. I had to, um, then put aside, you know, how much did we want to spend on this and work within a budget. So you see, you just think about all the things that you need to do to accomplish this task.
  • Then we had to set up shoot days, right? And after we set up shoot days, we have to think about post-production. And of course, nothing's ever perfect. We were going to have to, um, uh, after production, we probably would have to do some reshoots. And then we imagined we would have to test a lot. And um, and then, um, view it entirely.
  • So you see everything that you can think of that's going to need to happen. And then as far as visuals go, like the things that you're seeing, we had to decide, you know, what are they going to look like? What. PowerPoint. How was I going to be on camera? What was going to be to camera? What was going to be to the PowerPoint?
  • Any animations? Uh, Chirons we had to think of all these things and page numbers. Uh, from the workbook, you see, just get as granular as you can. The other thing we had to think of was modules. How many modules, um, what were the topics? Oh my gosh, we're going to have to, um, map those topics to page numbers.
  • You see, just break it down as much as you can, um, as much detail as you can, but leave it open for you to be able to add to it and change things around. That's why. I liked the post it note method. Put one thing on each, post it note, because then you can move it around and take some off, change them at any time instead of rewriting the whole list or scratching it out.
  • It just, it helps me think, and we're going to show you a picture of a project that I mapped out using posted notes. Just so you get an idea. Of, um, how I use them. So take whatever time you need for each of those bubble categories on your mind map and break it down into all the tasks that you can think of that you're going to need to do in order to get that done.
  • All right. Take whatever time you need. And again, I'm super visual. So I like to have it posted all around me to remind me I need to see the whole picture. So I, like I said, when I am working on a big project, my house is like one big flip chart and post it notes everywhere. So take whatever time you need and remember, you don't have to get it all complete or right.
  • You're just beginning to map it out. All right, you're building the frame. You're building the house. Alright.
