Choosing Core Values Exercise | Page 17

  • Okay. Now I hope you landed on your core motivation or that thing that drives you, that statement that helps you realize sort of the bigger purpose on why you're here and your core motivation, again, comes from inside of you. And don't worry if it's not perfect. It's not about perfection, it's about moving forward.
  • So our next step is to identify our guiding values. So we have a core motivation down here. And then we have values that are going to guide us and up here lives our domino goal. And what we want to do is pull a thread from our core motivation through our values into our domino goal. And that connection is that domino effect I'm talking about.
  • Because if what I'm trying to manifest is rooted deeply in my motivation, I'm more likely to stay on track. Sure. We get knocked off from time to time, but this next section is going to help you recognize when you're off track. Remember when I talked about how I had those three situations in my life? My career was blowing up.
  • It was awesome. But I also had three things that were, um, situations I discovered that were really in conflict or bumping up against my values. So now I'm going to help you identify your core values to help you recognize that when you get triggered or something feels off, usually you can track it to a value.
  • And when something feels on, you can also track it to a value. It's either being expressed or bumped up against. So what are values? Well, let's talk a little bit about values. Values really are beliefs with a punch. You know, you, you know, you bumped up against a value when something either really triggers you when it.
  • I guess you're kind of hot under the collar, like Ugh. Or you feel inspired and in flow of values even they're being bumped up against, or it's being fully expressed. To give you a little more context, a values really are the ideals that gives significance to our lives that are reflected through the priorities we choose and that we act on them consistently and repeatedly.
  • Essentially our values show up in our behavior. Let me talk a little bit more about our values, our values, our beliefs with a punch, and remember I talked about untested beliefs are beliefs. If they go untested, can hold us back, but our values can pull us forward. Let me give you an example. If you put a variety of clergy in a room from different faiths and you told them their task for the afternoon.
  • Was to agree on a set of guiding beliefs that is conceivably impossible. But if you put them together in a room and you're, their task was to agree on a set of guiding values, that's possible because our values go deeper. I'm going to explain even a little bit more. For example, you can find the value of family all over the world.
  • Right? But the belief I have around my value of family and the belief you have around the value of family, how it's expressed in my behavior and your behavior may be very different. And that's why sometimes we need to check those untested beliefs to make sure they're true for us to take us to our next step.
  • So this next exercise is, um, to begin to get clarity on what values. Are of greatest priority to you right now. So in your workbook, you have a list of, uh, is called the values exercise, where you're going to choose five values that resonate with you today. Don't worry, you don't have to let them all go.
  • But what I want you to do is choose your top five. Why five? Because if we have too many, we lose track. We want to focus on five. And you know what? Honestly, a five is too many. Focus on three. But you're going to go through the list and you're going to circle five values that resonate with you today that are important to you today.
  • And if there's a value that you have that isn't on the list, that's okay. That can be one of them. You're going to go through the list, you're going to pick five, and you're going to write your top five values on the bottom of your page. So what I'd like you to do now is take your time. Read through all the values first before you choose them and pick your top five .
