  • Hello in this video, I'm going to go over some of the main ways you can customize your convert kit account and have it match your brand, uh, in a few weeks key areas. So, first thing to do is obviously to log in to your ConvertKit account and then where we're going to head is starting with your profile.
  • So this is your login information. And one thing I wanted to draw your attention to is customizing your photo. I just want it to be clear that although you can do this, there's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't, uh, it does not dictate the image that shows in the email that's sent that's handled by your actual email provider, meaning like Google workspace or office three 65 or whatever.
  • So this was something I was actually confused by. Um, so I just wanted to point that out that you can do that, but it's more for how you show up here inside a convert kit, not in your actual emails. Okay. So that's the user profile next. If we click this, uh, over here again, we're going to go to account settings in the account settings page.
  • There is a few main things. First is the company name, this shows up in a few places, but again, just so it's clear, it's not on, um, the emails like from that is in a different section, which I'll get to, so you do want this to be accurate. Um, Yes. And then the account domain, um, you want this to be something short and your name, if at all possible.
  • Um, if you have a little bit of a unique spelling, like I do, you can get a little lucky, um, but you may need your first and last name, or if you go by your actual company, maybe that's what you would want, but this is, um, if you haven't customized this. It'll start with just like a random phrase and numbers.
  • So it's a really good idea to go and customize this because this is what is used by default, um, with your landing pages, um, as, as, uh, links, um, you can see here carson.ck.page, and then for this landing page, it added these numbers. Um, But that's what you're customizing there. So it's a good idea to change it to something more recognizable, because like I said, by default, if you don't change it, it's a random phrase, a number.
  • So, um, yeah, just be sure to change that. And then the homepage is just, if you have a landing page, it'll set up so that this direct URL where it goes to, so I'll just show you what this looks like.
  • This is to my warm welcome landing page. You can see carson.ck.page. So that is that you'd probably want to set it to maybe your most popular landing page. I don't know. Um, but it is optional because you can share from the landing page itself as well. Here. You also have API key and API secret. These are fancy things that you'll need.
  • If you're connecting other apps to convert kit, the good news is if an app ever needs this information, they're really clear about asking for it. And they oftentimes will even give you specific instructions of go to your convert kit account under your account settings. Go here, copy this paste to here.
  • So that's the good news. And that's what it's for. Um, the other thing that's important in the account is the subscriber consent options. So this is important if you're in the EU or if you happen to serve, uh, many people in the EU, uh, for most people, I think the best thing to do is to just allow it to be automatic and that you do that by selecting this option to show only to subscribers currently in the EU.
  • So this is just a privacy law thing. And if you want to learn more, you can read the article. But to me, It makes sense to just have that one on and then any changes you make here, your name, your domain. Be sure to come down to the bottom and save settings. The next area we'll look at is this email section.
  • And this is where you add your email that you want to send Frye. So hopefully you, with your customized domain, you can not use convert kit with a Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, et cetera. You will go to spam 100% of the time. So again, that's just a friendly reminder and they make it easy to add. So when you add it, just to draw your attention, the, from name, this.
  • It does show up. This is what shows up in the email, who it's from, and then obviously the email address. Uh, and then once you add it, they just send an email to that address. You just click a button to confirm it, and then it's confirmed and then just be sure to set the default one that you want to be used.
  • Um, and then if you ever have extras that you don't need, you can just click delete, but yes, be sure to set them as default, the one that you want to primarily used. The next thing to do is to just change your time zone. This is, um, Kind of a way that you can schedule all your emails. So you always send a newsletter on Tuesdays.
  • Um, probably not something, it might be something you do. So that's what this has meant for, uh, for us, we don't do that. So everything is left check checked, but I do change the time zone, just so that it's to me, because if you ever schedule a broadcast, you obviously want it in your time zone. So it's easiest to make sense of it.
  • The next is your address. This is just for spam laws. So be sure to do that and this VR, um, blah, excuse me, verified sending domain. This isn't important. If you send up, I think they suggest 50,000 emails a month. If you send that many, you should verify your domain. If you do not, you should not verify your domain.
  • It's kind of a double-edged sword. So. Mine is verified because we do send that many, but, uh, when it's not verified, there's a button to learn more and it links to a support article. Be sure to read that thoroughly and then it'll help you decide if you should be verifying your domain or not. These next two links are advanced as they say, but I like to do it.
  • It just adds some, uh, Google analytics information to your, uh, convert kit, uh, links inside of your email. So if you happen to use Google analytics, they'll show up as segments. So that's beyond the scope of list launching lab, but it is a nice thing. If you do use Google analytics and if you're unsure.
  • It's not the end of the world to turn these on. Um, but they are for advanced use cases, but again, turning them on doesn't do will hurt you at all. And if you don't care, you can leave them off. That's totally fine. And then anytime you make a change again, save the settings. Okay. On to the custom domains.
  • Here's where you can use your custom demand domain rather than the actual built in one, this one. Okay. So if you want to use your, your actual domains that you own, you can do that. And I do suggest if you need instructions to just click here and convert kit always has really helpful step-by-step guides, uh, in order to add a custom domain.
  • To your convert kit account. So be sure to check that out and it's, and it's great. This allows you to then obviously use your custom domain with your landing pages. So if I were to open one of these up and then go to settings and then domain, you can see, I have these options and these are obviously the custom domains that I have under my account.
  • That's why they show up. All right.
  • And again, if you need instructions, just be sure to click here and they make it really easy to follow along. The next sections are just not that important. So just payouts. Um, if you happen to use convert kits built in payment option, which is very cool. Um, you get started with that up here, but that's not what this video's about.
  • Billing is just obviously your billing history, all that you can invite people to your team, which is great. And then if you refer people. Um, you can add free subscribers to your account. Okay. So that is that me section in the next piece. What I want to talk about is the customization options you can do with email templates and content snippets.
  • So I don't actually use content snippets, but I probably should. So I'll talk to you about that, but we do use email templates. So if we click here, You can see that I actually only use one main template. And what a template does is it allows you to set the sort of color and the style of the email. That's just applied across all of your emails.
  • By default, you can have multiple and change on a broadcast or sequence by sequence basis in the settings. Um, but for the most part, we use the same one. So I'm just going to create a new one, just to show you how it works. Um, but you start by being able to decide what kind of style you want. So this is an important thing with making this decision is I suggest you use this one, the plain one that doesn't have.
  • It's not as fancy as you can see. Um, they can get really fancy. But this gets delivered the most because it looks the most like a plain old email, but the truth is with any automated email, you're still likely to go to the promotions tab, for example, in Gmail. So if you want to have some style and that's a big part of your brand, maybe the aesthetics, then I'm for sure.
  • Use one of the prettier ones. Um, I happen to really like this one to me, it's very clean and nice. Uh, I like this too, but again, what we use and what we suggest as a starting point for the deliverability reasons, um, is just this second one in, because it, it looks the most like just a normal email. So that means it's obviously not the most exciting, but yes.
  • Okay. So once you're in here, you can see on this right side, you have the option to customize, uh, all kinds of things. So you can change the font, for example. So if I change it to times, Roman, you can see that the font changes, right. So if I change it back, so that's what you're adjusting there. Um, the next thing you can do is change the link color.
  • So this is just a great way to match your brand, or if you have a favorite color or whatever, Maybe you like purple, you can change it and you can see that it updates all the clickable things, um, on the email template to match that color. Uh, you could change the font color. I probably wouldn't stray, uh, away from general black, but you could, if you're adventurous, um, And you could change font size.
  • I like to leave it at 16 because it kind of works across mobile phones and desktop without crazy weird font sizes. But you could play around with that. Okay. Next is you can customize the heading style. So this is these, uh, headings here. Uh, again, you could have maybe a different font type for those. If you happen to want to do that.
  • The next is button styles. To me, what makes sense is always having the link color, match the button styles, but, uh, that doesn't have to be the case. If you wanted to, you can copy this, um, just to have it match exactly, uh, the numbers, um, and you could change the color and if you want super rounded buttons, you can see now that's perfectly round, or if you prefer square or somewhere in between, uh, you can adjust that.
  • And the last step is just this additional styles to show the convert kit brand badge or not this right here. Uh, this, um, if you have a paid account, we'll give you the option to uncheck it and hide it. But if you're on the free account, that's not an option because I think. Basically when you're on their free account, they're hoping for you to upgrade.
  • So they add little annoying things like that, that they all, all email service providers do that. Um, and it is what it is. Um, another thing you can do is you can just, uh, name the template. So maybe you might fully customize one template specifically what, for one program, right. Um, so you could name it, you know, your program name and, um, and then it's easy to sort of see and understand and all that.
  • So that is creating a template. And if you click save, it'll show up, um, under your, uh, all the options that you have. Right? So then just to show you where this ends up showing up is say, you write a new broadcast. Um, you know, you fill in this information and all that, uh, watched the broadcast video, if you're curious, but you can see here on the templates on this right side, if I can change between these two.
  • If I wanted to use that again, maybe a specific program, uh, style, I could do that and you can switch very easily. So that is the email templates. So that is a really cool, great way to add to your brand. Again, there's a bunch of different template options. We do suggest this for deliverability, but feel free to explore these other more beautiful, uh, templates.
  • Okay. So the last thing I want to show you and talk to you about is the content snippets up here. So right next to the email templates, this is something that I don't actually use, but what it does is it basically adds blurbs of content that you use all the time without having to type it all out. So it's basically just like a custom copy paste, uh, thing that's available to you.
  • So if I make one, it's very simple, you just name it? So let's just say. Uh, social media. Let's just say, this is something you add to every single email. So rather than typing it all out every single time, uh, what you can do is you can say, uh, um, say hello on Facebook or in the graph.
  • And then I just have.
  • I have those links. So Facebook, you just highlight, this is much like the email editor. You can do pretty much anything you want here. So, um,
  • I'm just adding these links to them. Just as an example, you could get creative with this link at it. Bold. Okay. So let's just say, this is my simple, uh, snippet. Okay. So if I go back to a broadcast again, and we just continue on with this previous one, um, so again, templates are there, but now, since we've created that content snippet, if we hit this plus sign, you should see a bottom, uh, down here as snippets, and then it'll open up that.
  • And then it'll automatically add that snippet automatically, just as you have it typed in that content snippet place. So it just saves you from having to type it in all the time. And it's just a cool time-saver for those repeated things that you do may be call to actions, maybe again, links to your social media.
  • Um, but it is a handy feature. I have to say. I don't leverage it fully, but, uh, there it is. You can have many, many snippets and, um, you don't always have to go to your account settings. You can jump straight to it here. And, uh, there they are, you can add new ones. You could go in and you can edit old ones and you could archive them, uh, if you want it.
  • And they always have, uh, links to helpful, uh, support articles. So be sure to always look for those links because they always have helpful things. All right. So that is really, uh, account to one Oh one. If you will, with convert kit and all the things to look for and all the things you can change and all these sort of customizations to personalize it to you and your brand.
